TED: Ideas worth spreading: Keith Barry, Nic Marks, Peter Molyneux, Eve Ensler

I love TED videos!

How about you?

Keith Barry does brain magic

Here’s the link to the video if you want to copy paste it…

Do you like brain magic? I do. But I remember there is the word ‘magic’ after brain…

Statistician Nic Marks asks why we measure a nation’s success by its productivity — instead of by the happiness and well-being of its people. He introduces the Happy Planet Index, which tracks national well-being against resource use (because a happy life doesn’t have to cost the earth). Which countries rank highest in the HPI? You might be surprised. (Recorded at TEDGlobal 2010, July 2010 in Oxford, UK. Duration: 16:49)

A comment by Luis Perez from Costa Rica

“I like to consider myself a citizen of the world. However, I was born and raised in Costa Rica… and I’m still here! Nick is right, we are very happy :) We still have a lot of problems and we could do a lot better but we are happy most of the time… Could be our history, could be our weather, but most of all I think is all about “doing the best you can with the tools you have”.

Now, you heard the man:

1. Connect

2. Be active

3. Take notice

4. Keep learning

5. Give

There are a lot of interesting comments, worth to read!

Peter Molyneux demos Milo, a hotly anticipated video game for Microsoft’s Kinect controller. Perceptive and impressionable like a real 11-year-old, the virtual boy watches, listens and learns — recognizing and responding to you.

(Recorded at TEDGlobal 2010, July 2010 in Oxford, UK. Duration: 11:16)

“Eve Ensler, playwright, activist, created the ground-breaking Vagina Monologues,

whose success propelled her to found V-Day –a movement

to end violence against women and girls everywhere.”

`For some reason didn’t manage to open those videos…
But my son is called Ted ;-)

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

That is one reason why I added the links too. Sometimes links work better if you visit straight to the site (not watching on my blog).
But thanks for letting me know if somebody else have the same problem then idea of posting these videos is not good…

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

THANK YOU! I checked the post – had wrong codes there…I copied them from wrong place…NOW they should work! :) Thank you again!!!!

  2. avatar Allu says:

Huh, pitää katsoa oikein ajan kanssa. Tuo autojuttu tuntuu jotenkin tutulta. kuvittelen, että olen joko nähnyt tai joku on kertonut siitä.

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

Aikaa todellakin menee jos haluaa katsoa kunnolla…
Mina tykkaan naista TED:n videoista tosi paljon…mielenkiintoisia aiheita laidasta laitaan…

thye worked fine for me…i enjoyed the first one…rather fascinating…

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

I added a wrong link first – that’s why they were ‘dead’ but I changed them and now working okay.
So you’re not ready to move to Costa Rica!? :)

  5. avatar Aledys Ver says:

Hey, I too, had to re write all the data to be able to comment here, still have to figure that out.
Anyway, thanks for sharing these videos! They are very interesting. I hope more people would get to see this “brain manipulation” video!
And the second one is very interesting – let’s move to Costa Rica! :D

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

“write all the data” >>> because you’re commenting from different system now. BUT the next comment you write with the same browser should remember you.

Costa Rica – I really got interested…I liked that guy’s comment in the comment chain.
But seriously. There is no one country where all is perfect BUT it’s not the point. The point is how people feel, how they see their own personal life…
Finland and Finnish people have been years on top of that kind of lists…
Even if there are stupid things and weather is not (always) the best there are a LOT of good things…clean air, beautiful, rich nature, a lot of water (seashore and lakes/rivers), you can drink tap water, not too many people/traffic…but it’s a very expensive country to live in…but we have a good health care, social security and that doesn’t come for free which means HIGH taxes…
Why not to move to Finland?! :-)

I love TED videos, too.. Short, to the point and a very nice way to get the know new ideas and people all over the world.

  7. Vids played fine for me in Safari. My boyfriend turned me on to TED and I’ve been an avid viewer for quite some time and find it qualitative, worthwhile and informative.

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

Most of the speakers are good, there are all kinds of topics and I also like how the audience is connected with the speakers…

  8. avatar lisleman says:

thanks for sharing your selection of TED clips. I’m a fan of the TED facebook page. It’s a great event that has been going on many years. Maybe 6 – 7 years?

I watched the brain magic and it was amazing. The car driving was funny as was the spike and cups.

  9. avatar Peter says:

Interesting, fascinating! Thanks for making discover TED! Maybe for me, the one of highest interest is the one aobut Happy Planet. Yes, there are many values that should be included in your wellbeing feelings!

    • avatar BLOGitse says:

Guess if I envy you…Madrid! Did you know we lived there two years…yes, many years ago…we have great memories…
about TED, money or stuff doesn’t make us happy…happiness is INside of us, our attitude matters more than material life…
Clean drinking water will be a HUGE issue in our future…who owns clean drinking water or clean air?

  10. avatar Dan says:

Thanks, this looks like the kind of stuff I would get into…gonna have to wait for the weekend so I can sit and absorb. So, I’ll be back, in other words!
