I was browsing Identity magazine today and I felt something odd.
Once I looked and touched it a bit closer, I noticed there was a sticker!
Look how it censors the magazine’s Dr. Anne’s answer to the question:

I’m so disappointed to see that sticker placed over the magazine article. I feel frustrated every day about how far we have to go in the US for equal rights for all people, but I guess I should stop and be thankful for how far we’ve come. I also need to remember my gay brothers and sisters in Egypt! I hope they can stay strong.

The silence after the game on Wednesday was kind of sad. Esp since everyone was yelling and screaming and playing with noise makers before the game. 🙁
I’ve lived in Egypt for a while so the sticker shouldn’t shock me – but it totally does! Wow! Freedom really is an illusion here. 🙁

Tuo homoihin suhtautuminen on kyllä tosi erikoista. Esim. Luxorissa tietyt miehet eivät salaa sitä, että seurustelevat ja tapailevat (turisti)miehiä. Se on niin avointa ettei sitä voi olla näkemättä. Luulisi, että tätä pidetään homoutena paikallisten keskuudessa, mutta ehei. Olet homo vain jos toimit ns. naisena “parisuhteessa”. En ole koskaan käsittänyt tätä ja tässä maassa se tuntuu vielä ihmeellisemmältä! Luxor onkin ilmeisen tunnettu gay-piireissä.

Katsoin valoa vasten kohtaa jossa valkoisella naishahmo – lapi nakyi jotain sanoja ‘maan hallitus’ mutta ei kaynyt ilmi mita. Eli aihe kasittelee homoseksuaalisuutta joka on tassa maassa edelleen tabu. En tieda miten tuo lekuri asiaa kasitteli mutta ainakaan sita ei saanut julkaista vaan jokaiseen lehteen on siihen kohtaan latatty tuo tarralappu.

Hyvä artikkeli löytyi linkistä. Samoja syitä on ruodittu täälläkin, kyseessä ei ole vain urheilu vaan paljolti sisäinen sosiaalinen solmu, jossa jalkapallo toimi pakoputkena. Uudenlaista isänmaallisuutta myös havaittavissa.
Sticker? Siis jälkeen päin päälle liimattu vai, kaikkiin lehtiin? Onneksi siinä sentään lukee It’s time to be discovered..

Wow, it is the same here when Brasil loses something really big too! They live their football/soccer!
Sad that discussing an issue of whether someone is gay or not is a taboo….must be difficult to live there if you are!
